Plymouth Chamber Travel Program Explores the Magic of Ireland
This fall, the Plymouth Chamber Travel Program embarked on an unforgettable journey to Ireland—a land of storybook landscapes, lively culture, and centuries of history etched into every cobblestone street. Our group explored iconic cities, charming villages, dramatic coastlines, and legendary castles, experiencing Ireland in all its warmth and wonder.

Dublin: A Welcoming Beginning
Our adventure began in Dublin, Ireland’s vibrant capital. Travelers wandered O’Connell Street, admired the historic Georgian architecture, enjoyed a tour at Jameson Distillery, as well as the variety of shops. Visits to Trinity College and the Book of Kells, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Guinness Storehouse offered a rich taste of the city’s blend of old and new. Our first night we got to experience traditional music and Irish dancing.

Waterford & Kilkenny: Where History Lives
Nearby Kilkenny, known as the “Marble City,” offered medieval charm, artisan boutiques, and the impressive Kilkenny Castle. Its narrow lanes and friendly locals provided a delightful glimpse into small-city Irish life.

In Waterford, Ireland’s oldest city, our group discovered Viking triangle heritage with a walking tour to enjoy classic craftsmanship, including the world-famous Waterford Crystal, where travelers got to see how the crystal is all hand made. From blowing the glass to marking and cutting the beautiful pieces.

Blarney Castle: A Kiss of Luck
No visit to Ireland is complete without a stop at Blarney Castle. Travelers explored the lush gardens, learned about the castle’s medieval history, and—of course—some even climbed the 128 narrow spiral steps to kiss the legendary Blarney Stone, hoping to gain the “gift of eloquence.”

Killarney & the Ring of Kerry
One of the most memorable portions of the trip was our stay in Killarney, a friendly town surrounded by mountains, lakes, and national parkland. From here, we journeyed along the Ring of Kerry, a spectacular drive filled with sweeping views, seaside cliffs, and timeless rural villages. The route showcased Ireland’s natural beauty at its finest.

Cliffs of Moher: Ireland’s Natural Wonder
A highlight of the journey was visiting the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher. Standing more than 700 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, the cliffs offered awe-inspiring views along the Wild Atlantic Way. The dramatic landscape reminded us why Ireland is known for its raw, untouched beauty.

Limerick & the Shannon Region
In Limerick, we saw landmarks like King John’s Castle and the historic city center. The blend of ancient fortifications and modern riverfront development gave travelers a deeper look into Ireland’s evolving culture. An evening was spent in a medieval castle experiencing a dinner and entertainment like it would have been.
Galway: The Cultural Heartbeat
Next, we arrived in Galway, a beautiful coastal city with colorful storefronts, street musicians, and endless charm.

Kilbeggan: A Toast to Tradition
On our way west, we made a special stop in Kilbeggan, home to one of the oldest licensed distilleries in the world. Guests sampled traditional Irish whiskey and learned about the time-honored craft that has shaped Ireland’s heritage.

Cabra Castle: A Fairytale Farewell
Our journey concluded with a truly special stay at Cabra Castle, nestled in the countryside near Kingscourt. With its stone towers, lush grounds, and old-world elegance, Cabra Castle allowed travelers to experience a night straight from a storybook. It was a magical way to end an extraordinary adventure.

A Trip to Remember
From Ireland’s lively cities to its peaceful coastlines, legendary sites and incredible people, the Plymouth Chamber Travel Program’s journey was filled with breathtaking views, unforgettable experiences, and the warm hospitality Ireland is known for.
